PROVIDE A RIDE wants to greatly reduce the 1092 accidents, 683 injuries and fatalities, and the nearly 3500 DUI convictions that occurred in Central Virginia in 2011.
WHY SHOULD YOU HELP?
A. The NTHSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) estimates that 1 in 3 families will be affected by a drunk driver.
This means our entire community will benefit from helping people get home safely in a taxi.
B. The tragedy of 296 fatalities and 6646 injuries caused by alcohol related accidents in Central Virgina (Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, and Richmond) in the last 8 years. During that time there were 10,735 accidents.
65% OF ALL ALCOHOL RELATED ACCIDENTS RESULTED IN INJURY OR DEATH!
C. The costs to Central Virginia are huge: Prosecutions of DUI offenders costs millions of dollars; injuries, fatalities and property damage costs millions more; lost work time, lost jobs, and more contribute to the the cost to the community caused by drinking and driving.
BUT…THESE COSTS ARE ALL PREVENTABLE!
Provide A Ride is a completely volunteer organization. There is no individual being compensated for their work with PAR. All donations that are raised will go to paying Taxi Companies to take impaired people home, so that they do not drive.
